Tutorial how to use the CBS Library:
On one hand you can directly look in the shelves,
where the books are classified according to the classification system
“Allgemeine Systematik für Bibliotheken” (ASB). The shelves are labelled with
these groups. The groups have abbreviations, according to whom the books are
categorized alphabetically.
On the other hand you can use the catalogue to inform
yourself in advance, if the requested literature is available. You also find
out if the book has already been borrowed.
Should the book indeed have been borrowed, you can
place a reservation (e.g. online using your user account).
Is the book available, you need to know the location.
Is there stated “CBS-EUFH”, the book is located in the CBS-EUFH library. “EUFH”
means the book is located in the library of the EUFH in Brühl and could be
ordered (Inter-library Loan Service).
When we’ve made sure, that the book is available and
located at the CBS-EUFH we need to know where in the shelf the book can be
found. Under the point “Standort” in the catalogue, there are two lines. The
upper line means the specialised group. For example, there is the group “Hrk”.
In this category you find books concerning the subject job hunting and
application. This is the subgroup of “Hr”, general advisors for everyday
working life. This is the subgroup of “H”: business.
The requested book is probably not the only book in
this category. That means it needs to be individualized. This happens by the first
characters of the author or title. They are located in the catalogue under the
point “Standort” in the lower line, under the specialised group, for example it
states “BRI”. The books within a category are shelved alphabetically. The
requestes book with the location “Hrk BRI” is located in the category “Hrk”,
which can be found for example between the other categories “Hm” and “Hy”.
Within the category it is located for example between “BRA” and “BUL”. Spine
labels on the books are marked with both details.
If the book has been chosen you have to go to the loan
service so we can register the book to your name electronically. You can
overlook your loaned materials at the website of the catalogue in your user
account. Therefore you have to sign in (“Anmelden”) with your reading number
(stands under the code at your student-ID card) and a password. To find out how
to use your account please visit the point Search Tools / User Account
in the menu.
